The Premier League has published the results of its Key Match Incident Panel for Match Round 1, beginning a new weekly transparency programme for the 2026/27 season.
The independent panel reviewed 21 on-field key match incidents and judged 90 per cent of the original decisions correct. Two incidents went to VAR review, and the panel concluded that both overturns were correct. Those numbers do not prove that every fan will agree with every judgment, but they create a public record that can be compared from week to week.
The useful question is not whether VAR is suddenly perfect. It is whether publication improves consistency: similar handballs, red-card challenges and penalty incidents should be explained against the same threshold. PitchNaija will track the panel's decisions and separate the official assessment from supporter opinion.
