Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat Comoros 5–0 in Ikenne on Tuesday, with Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scoring twice each to complete a 7–0 aggregate victory. Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses will be their next opponents in the African qualifying campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The Nigeria Football Federation described the performance as a ‘clinical second-leg display’. Nigeria had won the first leg 2–0, but still needed to finish the tie before attention could turn to the next round. Christy Ucheibe’s penalty completed the scoring in the return match.
There was an early concern when captain Rasheedat Ajibade left the pitch after a collision. The official match report does not establish a diagnosis or a recovery timetable. Her withdrawal should therefore not be treated as proof of a longer absence.
Payne opened the scoring shortly before the interval. Kanu’s second-half header increased the lead, before Payne and Kanu each added another goal. Ucheibe then converted from the spot. Substitutes Folashade Ijamilusi and Blessing Okpe contributed to the attacking moves described in the federation’s report.
For Nigerian supporters, the important distinction is between winning this tie and qualifying for the Olympics. The Falcons have advanced to another qualifying round, not secured their place at the Games. Morocco provides the next competitive test; this result does not settle that future contest.
A convincing scoreline gives Nigeria a positive platform without removing the need to improve. The next useful assessment will be how the team prepares for a different opponent and whether its attacking connections remain effective under greater pressure. Which part of Nigeria’s performance should the Falcons build on before facing Morocco?
