Victor Osimhen scored as Galatasaray beat his former club Lille 4–2 in France on Wednesday, securing their first points of the Champions League league phase. The Nigeria striker supplied the visitors’ fourth goal in the 61st minute after a first half that ended level at 2–2.
Galatasaray’s official match report confirms the result and credits Osimhen with the finish that gave them a two-goal cushion. For Nigerian supporters, the important consequence is the change in their European position: the Turkish side have a first victory after beginning the league phase without a point.
‘Our Lions earned their first three points away in France,’ the club said in its report, translated from Turkish. That describes the immediate reward; it does not mean qualification for the knockout rounds is secured. There are still further league-phase matches to play.
Yunus Akgün opened the scoring before Soriba Diaoune struck twice for Lille. Aleksey Batrakov equalised shortly before half-time. Galatasaray’s report credits Lucas Torreira with restoring their lead, followed by Osimhen’s goal. The sequence matters: the visitors had to recover from falling behind rather than simply protect an early advantage.
The club describes Barış Alper Yılmaz supplying Osimhen during the move for the fourth goal. That is a reminder to judge a centre-forward’s contribution alongside the service around him. The finishing touch belongs to the striker, but the passing that releases him is part of the same attacking problem for defenders.
One successful away night is evidence of a response, not proof that every weakness has disappeared. Galatasaray still have further tests ahead, including Stuttgart at home in their next Champions League fixture. What impressed you most in Osimhen’s contribution: his finishing or the service that created the chance?
