Lagos will host the 2026 CAF Awards on 7 December, placing Nigeria at the centre of one of African football’s major end-of-year events. The date was included in decisions published after the Confederation of African Football’s Executive Committee approved its competition calendar and event dates.
CAF’s announcement states: “CAF Awards 2026 will take place in Lagos, Nigeria”. It also identifies Nigeria as the host of the CAF General Assembly on 21 November. These are separate events and should not be confused when supporters discuss the country’s football calendar.
For Nigerian fans, the practical value is having the dates confirmed early. The awards ceremony is not a fixture with a known kick-off, and the cited announcement does not supply a ceremony start time. A WAT viewing time should therefore not be guessed or borrowed from a previous edition.
Hosting is also distinct from winning. The location does not establish a Nigerian nominee, shortlist position or eventual award recipient. Those claims require the relevant nomination and awards announcements when CAF publishes them.
The wider calendar includes the CAF Women’s Champions League from 1 to 15 November and the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal from 28 November to 6 December. That means the awards sit immediately after another major continental competition, giving supporters several different strands of African football to follow before the ceremony.
Nigeria’s hosting dates provide a useful starting point for planning, but venue, access and broadcast information need their own confirmations. Supporters should distinguish the official dates from speculation about guest lists or entertainment programmes.
Read the calendar evidence in CAF’s published decisions. Which part of Nigeria’s hosting programme interests you more: the football decisions at the assembly or the players recognised in Lagos?
