Kano Pillars and Sporting Lagos split the points in Matchday 7, drawing 1–1 at Sani Abacha Stadium. Valentine Ugwu gave Sporting Lagos a first-half lead before Abdullahi Musa headed Kano level from Rabiu Ali’s corner early in the second half.
The official NPFL report says Kano had been favourites but “failed to win in three successive matches this season”. That run is the bigger pressure point for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side. They controlled enough of the contest to make Sporting goalkeeper Clinton Lawani busy, but they did not find the late breakthrough after using five substitutes.
For Sporting Lagos, the result carries a different value. Lawani’s first start of the season came ahead of regular goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt, and the report says he made a double save while also dealing with a Rabiu Ali free kick. Ugwu then took the chance created by a loose ball before half-time.
The draw puts Sporting on seven points from four away games, according to the NPFL report. Kano now travel to Ibadan for a rearranged fixture with Shooting Stars, while Sporting Lagos will host Bendel Insurance in Matchday 8. That makes the point useful only if both clubs use it as a base rather than a pause.
Kano’s next test is about ending the draw sequence; Sporting’s is about making their away resilience count at home. Which side takes more confidence from this 1–1?
