Nigeria’s Flamingos opened their 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup campaign with a 5–0 victory over Niger Republic in Yamoussoukro, according to the Nigeria Football Federation.

Captain Harmony Chidi scored first in the 16th minute and Awawu Bashiru added the second. Ohunene Sunday, Mary Dunstan and Ayomide Rotimi completed the scoring late in the match.

The pattern matters as much as the score. Nigeria controlled possession, protected their clean sheet and stayed patient before turning late pressure into three more goals.

It is a strong opening, not a guarantee. The next test is whether the Flamingos can preserve that control when the opponent offers more resistance and fewer spaces.
