Enyimba beat Shooting Stars 4–2 in Aba on Wednesday, 30 September, to record their first league win of the 2026/27 campaign. Richard Ezinna opened the scoring in the seventh minute after the People’s Elephant pressed Kalu Nweke high, and the early goal gave the home side the start it had been searching for.
The official NPFL report said Enyimba had "finally got off the mark" after a difficult opening stretch. Damian Chibueze Ezeifule made it two in the 29th minute with a long-range strike, before Idris Abubakar added a third nine minutes before half-time. Enyimba’s tempo and willingness to press forwards were the story of the first period.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele finished Wonah William’s pass four minutes after the restart to make it 4–0. Shooting Stars did not fold: substitutes Mustapha Adams Agba’a and Johnmark Aule scored in the 76th minute and stoppage time. The late goals changed the final scoreline, but not the fact that Enyimba had built a decisive advantage well before the closing stages.
For Enyimba, the result is a useful reset before Sunday’s Matchday 7 meeting with Plateau United at Enyimba Stadium. That game is listed for 16:00 WAT (19:00 Yerevan) on the league’s official fixtures page. Shooting Stars travel home to face Nasarawa United at the same time, with a defensive response now essential after conceding four in Aba.
Did Ezinna’s opening press set the tone for Enyimba’s best performance of the season so far?
