Ikorodu City assistant coach Washington Egor praised his players’ resilience after their 2–2 draw away to Doma United in Gombe on Saturday. The Lagos side returned with a point from a four-goal game, with the long journey forming an important part of Egor’s post-match assessment.
Daily Post reports that Tomiwa Awojobi and Ujunwa Elijah scored for Ikorodu, while Bitrus Philemon struck twice for Doma at Pantami Stadium. The NPFL’s results list confirms the draw. Monday’s official table places Ikorodu on 14 points from 11 matches, keeping the result in the context of their wider league campaign.
‘I want to give kudos to the players for showing resilience,’ Egor told NPFL media, according to Daily Post. He also described the road journey as taking almost 24 hours. That is the coach’s account of the trip, and it explains why his reaction focused on the effort involved as well as the final score.
An away point can feel different to the players who have made that journey, but it still needs to be judged against what happened in the match. Scoring twice is a positive platform. Conceding twice leaves a separate question about how the team protects itself when an opponent sustains pressure or the game becomes stretched.
The next step is to turn the resilience Egor identified into repeatable habits. Recovering a useful defensive shape after losing the ball can reduce the distance players must cover at full speed. Keeping a passing option available after regaining possession can also help a side escape another spell of defending rather than immediately returning the ball.
For Ikorodu supporters, the draw offers encouragement without removing the need for improvement. Which would most help turn difficult away trips into more points: protecting possession for longer or creating clearer chances when the team breaks forward?
